This fairly heavy, but rather airy and delicate-looking shelf is one of my latest explorations in furniture design. I usually think of a shelf as a vehicle to display the things inside. This time, I wanted it to stand out on its own without overshadowing its inhabitants. Therefore, I chose to make a statement with the materials, which are more commonly combined in architecture than in furniture design, to give this object a familiar yet surprising appearance.
Using concrete and steel in such thin forms was a challenge in itself, but with a fully welded frame, everything is quite sturdy without additional bracing. To clean everything up, all elements such as the leather, planter, and even the shelving are fully integrated with each other and tucked away, making the appearance well-balanced.
